Hello, I'm new to this forum. Since this seems like an experienced crew, I'll ask: have any of you had pain in your arch that radiates to the top of the foot? It's NOT plantar, I'm sure of that. I bought some inserts (Easton) that are just arch supports to correct alignment, and they seemed to help a little, but the pain was back post-run today. Any advice would be appreciated. Incidentally, I run in Montrail Hardrocks, and have never had this problem, but then I'm training for my first 50 miler, so my mileage has definitely increased.

Well, FWIW, which isn't much, when I had the same problem the podiatrist told me I had high arches and the "thinning fat pads" of older runners. I'm old. She prescribed arch-support inserts for wear all the time (ready-made, not the $400 monsters) and I got some heat-moldable supports from Zombie Runner for races. She stressed that I needed to wear the supports all day, every day and that it would take time for things to come around. She was right. But now, all is well. Took a couple of months.
But that's just me.
Foot problems seem to take a lot of experimentation. We're all different. Something will work. Good luck to you.

Thanks for the advice! I've seen something similar happen with my knees--when I finally found the right trail shoes, I had a little knee pain that was the result of my legs being, at long last, properly aligned on trails. No knee issues since (4 years and running!). I'm going to be optimistic/stubborn--I'd like to stick to this training schedule.

But if I'm a teacher and roam my house barefoot all day, how the heck am I supposed to wear the supports? Hmmmmm

Thanks again!
