Heading out for my first run in probably a couple of years this afternoon. Switched to powerlifting in 2010 and managed to win a number of meets in my weight class as well as setting 3 x raw records. I loved it but unfortunately running and lifting heavy weights don't go together very well haha.
Got sick a couple of weeks ago and lost 13lb of bodyweight, have been thinking about running for a while and figured this is as good a time as any to switch back, Will look to get a few marathons under my belt again before I pick an ultra possibly towards the end of the year. See you around JIM.

Thanks, really looking forward to getting back to where I left off. Please feel free to delete the other thread that's the same - duplicated it for some reason ?! |

I have a few monkeys I want to get off my back, first race will be Dunedin marathon. It's a tough hilly course and I want to beat my PB of 3.54. After that I want to try and go sub 3.30, that would be pretty awesome! |

My main goal for 2014 is running a sub 3.30. One of my friends is going to run the Auckland marathon with me and hopefully we can pace each other to hit that goal. I'm training for an off road marathon at the beginning of March, will be racing a few half's as well to work on my speed. Exciting stuff JIM. |

Good luck with your goals this year. My goals are to finish my first 50 mile trail race, and I want to finish a marathon in around 3:30. Last year my goal was to finish a marathon under 3:40 (Boston qualifier time) but for some reason I ended up severely dehydrated (even though I was drinking enough) and had to fight to keep from passing out. I finished in 3:40 and 13.5 seconds! So frustrating to be so close, but I will be back with a vengeance this year! |

Wow, sounds like you had a bit of good luck. 3.40 is still a blistering time though, well done! |

Well thank you! I did feel pretty lucky to have finished. At the time, I had no idea what was going on. I ended up in the medical tent with an iv. I do feel that if I hadn't been dehydrated, I could have come in at least 5 minutes maybe 10 minutes faster.
Good luck to you! |
