What is the history of the belt buckle award?

What trail races offer the belt buckle as an award?

How many of these belt buckles are given out in a year?

How important is the buckle to you?

The Western States used to be a horse race. A buckle was the award for the winner. Now it is a finisher medal for each runner, but I think you only get it if you finish in 24 hours. I have no idea how many other races have one.
