Does anyone use gaiters for winter trail runs, and if so are there any you can recommend. I am doing a 15 mile trail run and snow will be on the ground, will these help to keep my feet dry?

Gaiters will help keep your feet dry. They'll cover a good part of your shoes and prevent snow from getting in them. For a trail run, ankle gaiters should be sufficient. If the snow is deep, you might think about longer gaiters.

I ran an ultra in teh snow once... Waterproof shoes will keep your feet dry!

Gaiters really only keep rocks and some water splashes out.

There are water resistant gaiters out there that are good for snow running, I own an old pair of the OR Flex-tex Low gaiters( REI also has something similar) with gore-tex shoes & Smartwool socks work great in snow. If a wet creek crossing is a possible, then going with goretex shoes is a bad idea, reason being: if something is designed to keep it out.... if it gets in, it can't get out either. Better to use shoes that are good drainers with the Smartwool socks. I do use the fore mentioned Dirty Girls Gaiters in summer(really flashy colors & styles but us trails runners are a flashy bunch anyway!) My wife calls them my "shoe panties", they are great for twigs, pebbles & other small debris from getting in the shoes & are inexpensive. Good Luck! Jeff

We do a lot of trail running in really sandy places as we don't have anything higher then Mt. Trash-moore so I started making and selling these to friends. Good luck! B
