When and where is everybody running next? I'm heading to Arkansas for the AT100 on the first weekend in October.

I am thinking about the Las vegas Fat ass in January, and or Pemberton trail 50k in Feb.

Bandera is a great race. I hope to get back there in 2008.

I'll probably slip something in between then and now, but my next goal race on the trail will be American River 50, followed by MMT100. Still pondering whether or not to toss my hat into the WS100 lottery. Between now and AR50, I had hoped to gear up for a road marathon PR, but lately I'm having the worst time getting motivated to run consistently.

I can sympathize. The heats even been managable of late, and I've still been in a slump.

Will be doing the Great Eastern Endurance Run 100K in a little over a week. After that, I may do JFK in November, will do OD Memorial in May.

I'm signed up for the Rio del Lago this month.. my first 100-mile attempt, so this should be very entertaining. My Texas friends have said such wonderful things about Bandera, that I'm tempted to try that one year.. January is such a tough month for me to run any races in, though, as November & December are typically low-mileage.

LightinAugust, I be thinking I know you.

Without all your beloved online poker ads, this site tumbles along right quick. I wouldn't mind seeing a general migration. BCR might see a need to create an Abject Silliness Forum, though. All trail related goofage, mind you. Maybe, Abject Trail Silliness Forum.

Speak for yourself. All my topics are about serious running-related issues. Seriously.

And is Faulkner a relation?

And I just noticed Fivels is here. Hi, LL!

I've always said that about you. People ask, and I say, "CougarSnack? Dead-serious, bordering on grim when it comes to running. Could stand to lighten up a bit. Offends bees."

No, just a habit.

I'm researching Bee Whisperers (NOT Googling them. Am looking in the phone book. The nice, safe, rated G phone book) so that RDL is incident-free. And just in case I can't find a reliable one, I'm outfitting myself in camouflage and face-paint so the bees won't even know I' there...

Heck no, Lorilie (whoops. my crew is listening) I mean, "Well of course! Nothin' but runnin' from sun-up-to-sun-down. I eat, drink, sleep, & poop running."

Actually, I'm as ready as I can be with all the smoke around here. I've had to taper a little sooner than I planned because of the air quality.. can only go out for 8 miles at a time before I'm overcome by the gases and am ambulanced back to my house to recuperate , carb load, and think some more about runnin'.

But I have MY foam roller to do my feng-shui pilates whatnot. I should be in good shape.

Look into Pooh.

For a bear of very little brain, he came up with a remarkably clever strategy for deceiving bees. I think it involves a big blue balloon and rolling in a very muddy place, plus an accomplice who walks around with an umbrella, saying, "Tut-tut, it looks like rain."

Are we back to Stubbies again? I can't run when I laugh, so that would be self-defeating.

And BCR is going to wonder what the hay happened. He turns his back for a minute, and the riff-raff run amok.

Deanne had to straighten me out on the Stubbies thing. I was thinking of "Stummies," the magical mood pill in the Kids in the Hall movie, Brain Candy. (Rent it.) I've needed Stummies during ultras.

Because I do not actually own any clothing anymore which didn't come in a race goody bag, I was utterly clueless on the Stubbies thing. Westside'll be fine. We'll give him an electric guitar and everybody'll think Angus Young, not Christopher Robin on steroids.

Poor BCR. I think I'm done with the old forum, me and my happy keyboard fingers.

I used to watch KITH all the time - LOVED IT! But I missed the movie. Shane (Derek's friend) reminds me of Bruce, the guy who played the flying pig on the show.

I know, I know. I'm so glad BCR doesn't have subtitles announcing how much time I spend on this (I just graduated to "in need of a hobby," even though everyone knows I have plenty of hobbies. I just choose to ignore them in favor of something more meaningless.)

As a family, we enjoy playing "I am pinching your head" across the dinner table. Sometimes, I don't pinch very well because I'm tired after a long trail run.

(See how deftly I turned this into a running related post?)

I'm going to be Technicality Judge and say it's "I crush you," not pinch. I know this, only because Steve and I do it, too.

I also want to say it's a relief to know we're normal. But I don't think I can do so with a straight face. Especially after a long trail run.

(There's that game I think everyone's played, where you tack on the same phrase at the end of everything. I think to appease the forum gods, I will start doing that with "after a long trail run," to make everything all business-like. Good idea, LIA. Now we'll look like really serious trail runners after a long trail run.)

Crewing and pacing at Angeles Crest this weekend; volunteering at Firetrails 50 (checking markings & sweeping); running - finally! - San Francisco One-Day.

Oh yeah - if you like Kids in the Hall, try Wonder Showzen. Despite the cute cartoonish art on the box, DO NOT let your kids watch this! ;-)

The more places the merrier, burton ;-)

Marcel, give some more hints about who you is. Lover of long books? What kind?

Regarding the actual heading of this discussion, I'm going to get one last 10-mile run in today before tapering to a couple of 4-milers leading up to next weekend's Rio Del Lago. I'm also going to cram as much sleep as I can into this coming week, as I've noticed a distinct improvement in my race-day attitude if I have hibernated like a bear the week prior.

See, my problem is I was taking you all literally, not literatureally. I don't know what got into me.

Not that I would've recognized Proust if he threw poop at me and laughed his silent ass off. I've never read the man.

I think it's gonna take some posts from your neck o' the woods to get others to feel the urge, run4urlife.

Either that, or a tug-of-war challenge between the two states that post the most. Runners up get to be costume judges. The odds 'n ends states can play obstacle course, sticking a leg in here or there whenever a contestant gets to be too uppity.

We just need to pick a location...

I'm in the East. I ran HAT last year. I probably won't make it this year; I'm eyeing Zane Grey out in Arizona around that time of year. Next up is Mountain Masochist in a little under 3 weeks.

I'm not too far from you, run4urlife. I'm debating on doing HAT in my neck o' the woods or Bel Monte in VA that same weekend. Of course, that all depends on how long it takes me to recover from whatever is ailing my knee--my PT thinks I may have a (beware--this is a word of the four-letter kind which I am about to type) TEAR in my lateral meniscus. Perhaps it's the bad karma from my being so uppity?

Thanks for the well wishes, lightinaugust. This is the same thing that kept me from running the GEER almost a month ago. Went to the ortho who thought it was either chondromalacia or a lateral meniscus injury. (Did he use the word 'injury' instead of 'tear' here to keep me from scaring myself?) He prescribed 4 weeks of PT but no MRI and told me to come back afterwards. I see him next week. Knee still feels funny. Therapist thinks it could be a meniscal t-e-a-r, but I'll have no way of knowing until I get an MRI or a more thorough examination of my knee.
